Image Dynamics

Hey ejshultz,My buddy own a tuner shop in Frisco,ca. which he carry ID products.

He is redoing his z300, with all ID products.

Some people like ID some dont, I personally like ID.

they make a solid product & there mids for the price is one of the best well balanced mids in a comp set around.

They do have great midbass, upper mid is really nice.

I like the fact the vocals dont over power everthing else, not like my cdt's where the vocals over power everything.
Okiedokie okiedokie. Thanks for the input. That's exactly what I'm looking for in a mid driver. Not overwhelming vocals, great midbass and the upper mids.

I have had many different comps in the past and I have never heard any of them sound as clean and good as the ID's do. I am almost willing to bet that it was install error somewhere on the ones he did not like. They have out performed Polk's, CDTs, Kickers and a few others. The mid bass is great and the tweeters crisp and clear. I was so impressed by the Image Dynamics comps and IDQ's that I just ordered a ID Q1200.1 Amp to replace my Arc Audio KS 1000 with. If the Amp is even half as good as the speakers it will be well worth the money. I will take some pictures and post them when the amp comes in.

Cool. One more vote to get them. I'm leaning towards them and I'm probably going to make a move on them tonight or sometime tomorrow, at which point, my Focals will be for sale and a for sale thread will be started.

What about the Alpine SPX-13PRO? They seem pretty decent. I've heard good things about them. I can get the on eBay BNIB for just a hair over my price range. I think I'd make that type of exception to get them if they're worth it.

Maybe I'll get the SPX-17PRO set. They're about the same price on eBay and they have a great frequency response. I'll be underpowering them a little, but I can always bridge my amp and get rid of my rears... Any feedback on these?

I will be quick and simple here. I have heard every single driver form ID (well maybe not the old stuff like the IDW and what not...but the current production) and I will say 99.9% of the people will love it all. From the entry level to the high end XS drivers. I will admit i know Eric, Matt, Sean all of them personally but what really stuck in my mind was just a few words...."we will not build, sell or produce a driver that doesnt sound good or won't put in our own vehicles". To this day, i would agree. I would put ANY of them in my own vehicle....they get better and better as the series increases. Happy listening. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Those SPX PROs are supposed to have a nice tweet if you can mount it on-axis.
Here's a post you may find interesting. This guy's been posting a bunch of info, much of which is over my head. LOL. http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/780848-post32.html
I understand what he's saying. Basically speakers with a lower inductance and a "higher" resonant frequency, although the numbers he uses go lower, will be "tighter" and more controlled. Supposedly, these qualities are found only in low powered factory speakers and very high end comp sets with a couple of exceptions. That's what I got out of that.

As far as the SPX PRO tweeters go, I need something that doesn't necessarily need to be on axis. I guess that rules them out. Maybe I'll just stick with the IDs. The frequency response of the Alpines just took me by surprise and I know they make some real nice higher end speakers. When I found these for less than $300 shipped, I figured it may be something worth looking into.

Great speakers, a world away from the IDs in terms of resolution, clarity, transparency and articulation. Isn't there a store in your area where you can listen to some of these speakers, instead of mindlessly counting votes?

Hmm... This seems promising, especially after hearing that the Alpine tweets need to be on axis. I know the IDs have the flush mount where the tweeter can be angled. I'm so confused on what to get now... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif If only there was some super company who made only one speaker that would fit anywhere you needed it to fit and give you any type of sound you were looking for, all packaged for under $50. I'll keep dreaming on that one.

Again, I'm open for suggestions. I don't want to go too much over $250 for the set. I'd prefer to buy new as I purchased my Focals used and I wasn't overall ecstatic with their condition. I guess I could go with 6.5"s even though I'd rather go with a 5.25" due to less modifications. I know the 6.5"s will give me a lot more midbass and that's why I'm looking to upgrade. The SPX-PROs looked perfect except for the tweeter. If the tweeter can rotate in the mounting cup, I can more than likely get them on axis and will not rule them out just yet. ****, I'm so confused.

If Florida can mindlessly count votes, so can I.

I can't think of any local stores who carry any Type X products. Well, I take that back. There's one, but he doesn't have anything on display. He more or less does tint, alarms, and remote starts. He's authorized to sell Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, Kicker, and probably a few others too. I've seen the SPX-17 and 13 PROs in his shop. He didn't have anything to show me as far as how they sound though. He ordered them to install in someone's BMW.

All this talk about the alpines needing to be on axis..... you do realize they have a swivel flushmount included in the box correct? I owned a set of the last model type x comp sets as well. While the tweet sounded much better on axis, it was no slouch off axis either, and with the swivel mount it was easy to aim it correctly.

I hope you expect a better return. Unlike your example, all votes don't carry the same weight. I always marvel at the mentality that rationalizes arguably the most inane and insipid mode of forum behavior. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Perhaps it's worth taking a short trip to make sure that you're happy with your purchase. OTOH, your expectations can probably be conquered with a judicious use of an EQ. You're not asking for much. For all intents and purposes, you may be happy with the IDs and there's a whole slew of folks around ready to tell you that you bought great speaker. Seeing how you're counting votes, mass acceptance and reinforcement must carry a value. Or, you could use your ears, do some legwork, and buy what you like. Good luck.

What you say is definitely correct about taking votes. I always recommend to listen to any prospective set of mids before buying them, because there are so many that sound so different. It's not like a sub, where you can see TL results and buy based on that. If you have a chance to hear the id's, alpines, and whatever else you are interested in, it will be worth the drive to do so, or else you are just throwing money away.
