THE STEREOTYPE FIGHTER!!!
lkle on my laptop that has windows 8.1. i hate windows now, i wish xP could stick around for another 2-2.5 years but i know its gotta go. does anybody use LKLE or ZORIN? i know theres plenty of ubuntu users here but since i have a love affair with xp, im trying to stick as close to it as possible.

i have a HP spectre 13 ultrabook FYI, with the 4gigs of RAM and 128 SSD. i would love to run audacity on it, and install adobe flash (if possible to watch youtube stuff and see occasional movies on letmewatchthis), adobe reader (again if possible to download PDFs) and some type MSoffice-like suite as well. this HP is only the 4th computer i had since 2000 and theyve all been windows (compaq desktop, acer travelmate and a lenovo s10 netbook which i still have and use alot).

thanks kids

I've ran MANY different versions of Ubuntu in my lifetime... What I've come to realize is this: For a LAPTOP computer = UBUNTU is NOT the ideal choice. Laptops are all about mobility, speed, and ease of use, and though you may get close with the right version / drivers / etc. for your particular application - No laptop with any version of Ubuntu is going to beat out a good PROPERLY set up identical machine running Win 7... I'm NOT saying UBUNTU of any version is bad or not to use it - That's not what I am saying at all right now... But I AM Saying that it's not IDEAL for a LAPTOP 90+ % of the time... And WOW - XP eh?! LOL do they even support that anymore? LIMITED to say the least lol. Win 7 is the best Microsoft has to offer. 8 is pointless unless you have a touch screen PC //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I am a computer science student I refuse to use windows and really only use linux. I currently use manjaro, but I've used tons of different distros. Ubuntu has changed so much and I don't use it at all anymore. I could see them being like Windows one day as corporate as they are becoming. Flash won't be a issue and as far as a office suite goes just download libre office. You can actually try it now on Windows if you want (it's available on Windows and is free). On the bright side, Linux will run much faster especially on the SSD!

If you want to be able to use and utilize ALL your LAPTOP pc has to offer... NO version of Linux is going to be the best choice. PPL Crack me up with this shyt about Windows and their problems they have LOL - I've been running the SAME install of Win 7 Ultimate 64 on my desktop for YEARS now without issue and it's just as fast as the day I set it up. My laptop also runs win 7 ultimate 64 and is going on a little over a year with the same install... Has 8gb ram, AMD 4 core, and a 256gb SSD - FAST, smooth, and it does what I want it to do. Most WIN issues and WIN h8erz are due to USER ERROR, and not properly setting up your machine for it's intended use in the first place... But if you insist: Do some research online and in the forums for your particular machine to see what the best option / version of Linux is for YOUR PC and you should be on your way... Cheers and GL to you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

- Ah I gotcha... So you're just going to make it so you can't really even utilize most of the touch screen features then? Basically just looking to use this as a normal laptop then right?

LOL why you say that? I'm not hating, I just question ppl's motives for doing things from time to time to try and understand their point of view //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Honestly, Microsoft stopped support for XP years ago. When was the last time you saw a XP machine with an update anyway? This is just their formal way of stopping support. If you have XP and a 3rd party antivirus program (AVG and Malwarebytes are what I suggest) you're fine. But, Windows 7 is the way to go if you want to stick with windows.
