I'm sure I did something wrong...

So I installed my CDA-9887 today and the front sounds great! So great, that I didn't realize that the back wasn't even playing. Well it was, but it seemed as though the HPF was on for them and I'm not sure why.

I have a comp set in the front, a coax set in the back and no sub yet. How should I have configured this thing with all the crossovers and EQs?

Oh and I currently have it configured on 3way. Part of me is thinking I need to set it to F/R/Sub-W... but I can't get down there now since I'm back at work. ANyone have ideas?

You need to flip the switch to f/r/sub-w three way is if you are going to run active with it, it's the same setup as my alpine 9855.

So is that a dumbed down way of differentiating the switch?

F/R/Sub-W --- All the same sound on all the speakers?

After reading their manual, I'm a LITTLE less confused, but still trying to figure out what the non-technical description for each of those switches are for. It would also help if I had a better grasp on the whole "running active" concept, but I know I saw a passive vs, active thread around here somewhere.

Basically it is both f & r channels will run full range sound 60-20k hz. If the switch is on 3 way it will have the front running say 60-2k and the rear channel running from 2k- 20k or vice versa if you are running a comp set with a 4 channel amp and 2 channels go to the tweets and two channels go to the mids insted of using a passive crossover that would be running active.

So then what about if I wanted to run tweets, mids, and another set like the setup I have?

I have a comp set in the front(that I could separate and remove the passive xover), but I also have a coax set in the back. How would that coax set figure in to it all?

You would need a 4 channel amp to run the comp set and then run the coax's off the head unit's power, but it takes a lot of trial and error to get an active front stage sounding right.

yes it would, but the sound quality can be improved by running active, if you are happy with how it sounds once you flip the switch to where it should be I would just leave it that way.

Shit, I'm happy with how the Polk MM6501 set sounds by themselves. Didn't even know the back ones weren't working lol. I still have a decent amount of control with the EQ and stuff on F/R/Sub though, right?

Yes you have lot's of setting to mess with just running normal, I love all the eq's and crossover on my 9855, I love the nicer alpine hu's
