My **** comp started cutting out again, so i went back to check out the amp. And i noticed something...i had my HPF at 130!!! Holy crap thats high! So i turn it down to ~80-85, and HERE COMES THE MIDBASS I was lacking! Whew! And to think, i thought that MBQ just sucked with midbass. The whole freakin time it was just my idiot self thinking i had it set right. Anyways, i got to my HU to turn off it's HPF cause i dont need it. And then all of a sudden, everything sounds like shit! WTF? my HU has HPF settings of 50/80/125. I had it on 80. And mind you, my amps HPF is on 80. but when i turn of the HU's HPF, the comps start playing LOOOOW frequencies. Is my amp's HPF broken or something? Am I retarded? Why would i hear any difference if i turn my HU's HPF from 80 to OFF? I shouldnt hear any difference cause my amp's HPF is on 80. How can i check 2 C if my amp's HPF is functional? TIA

it could have them play lower than they are meant to / you want them to and cause distortion..

active is the shit ya know //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

active xovers are great...many come with a line driver and use 24 db/octave slopes

and having a low slope like 6 or 12 db can have them extend lower than you want them to...making them distort at higher volumes because of playing lower frequencies

Having two crossovers at the same frequency is additive. So if the amp's slope is 12 dB and the HU's slope is 12 dB then having them both on at 80 Hz will make it 24 dB. So it only makes sense that when you turn one of them off you will get more lower notes coming through.
