I'm Back

Forgot your comp was down...sent a few people your way for box designs in the past week or so, hope you still have all your files and everything. It would really **** if you lost everything through this "impossible happening"

Oh yeah....welcome back //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wave.gif.002382ce7d7c19757ab945cc69819de1.gif

don't know if you care or not, but at work it's the rules to make sure the OS/system drive is physically different than the data/program files/etc. drive...

Thankfully, my parents paid for it, but they expect me to pay them back //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
Though I probably could've done most of it myself, but none of my friends with DVD burners (or parents) would let me hook my HDD up to their computers as a slave and save my files to DVD ...
Bastards.....

theoretically impossible

dont you hate it when you take your stuff to someone who doesnt know as much as you?

i mean "theoretically impossible" to write another partition? partition magic does that all the time. it would only take so long for a hacker to try and use that software in an attack to hide the trojan.

it reminds me of when i had to take my computer from california back to wisconsin for warranty service because every game i tried to play went to blue screen. i updated all the drivers erased any that were left over (even the hidden ones //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif and i still had the problem. i bring it in and the guy spends 3 days tying to figure it out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif then when i ask him what he did to fix it he said reinstall the graphics driver.... i said i did that. he said then i dont know.....

ehh if it wasnt under warranty it would have been like $500 i would have strangled the guy. i mean does it really take 3 days to reinstall a driver? HAHAHHAHA he did more than that :p

well. windows XP is a pain in the ass jmac.

take this advice. get another harddrive. use it to store EVERYTHING you want. this way, if your OS takes a dump, then you still have all your stuff and you dont have to be scared to format.

thats what i am doing. hell, even partition the drive 40%(os)\\60%(files) and do it that way.

you will be so happy that you can save all your stuff if somthing like this happens again. trust me. its well worth the effort.

For the price of cd/dvd writers, they are a good means of backup. Save your data off the any other device periodically.

And if ever needed, you can ship your drive to me for much cheaper that 330.... and I will pick off what data is recoverable for you.

I once had a drive crap out on me @ work. they spent about $800 sending it to some recovery facility in cali...with no luck. after that happened, I had to re-write a LOT of source code....and that's when they now do auto-backups from lan-booting in the early early morning & enforced the os/data separation.
