Illumination & Dimmer wires

Need some help...I installed a Panasonic CQ-DF802U into my 1989 Dodge Daytona and i made the mistake of not using a wiring harness thingy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/censored.gif.f9ad8e7c6db58c5530c5a0a20a3b5baf.gif ...so now there are the two wires (Illumination & Dimmer) that i don't know what to do with...i hooked them both up to the ACC wire and now the lights in the vehicle are always on when i start it up...when i tried to use the battery wire they were always on, even when the car was off...i'm not sure where to put these wires so that the lights inside only come on when the headlights are turned on...

help...plz

i believe the illumination/dimmer connections are suppose to dim your hu display when you turn on your headlights. you don't need to use this connections if you don't mind have your display bright at night.

Take your multi-meter and look for a cable that is hot +12V when your lights are on and 0V when they are turned off... Thats where the Illumination wire goes.

I'm not sure about your dimmer wire, what does the manual tell you this is for?

Another thought: what if both cables are disconnected does the HU have any light at all then? If not your illumination should go onto a "+12V when key is in" to make the HU light switch on. The dimmer would then go onto the "+12V when lights are on" to make the HU light dim when you switch on your light = when it is dark and your HU would be too bright
