If the Gold Plating on the RCA Jacks of a HU scraped off a bit, would that effect....

I some times get alternator weeze (interference) and a SH*tty Connection, occasionally the right speaker will only work...Could it be possible that the Gold plating on the RCA's might be wearing off? or could have been scraped off from when I put the RCA's in? would that do anything??
