If a dual voice sub was wired as a single voice...

hey popez.. just as a piece of advise, you don't need to start a new thread everytime you have a question.. especially when they're coming at a rate of 2 a day. Just add to your threads that you already made.

would it be damaged?
i think thats the reason why the amp has been going into protection mode and randomly turning off

once this is fixed, will the subs/amp have been damaged at all?
It wont damage the coil. Adire Audio has a tech article on this issue.

The only reason an amp would go into protection if you only wired one coil is if the coil has a lower impedance than what the amp could handle. If the amp is stable down to 4ohm and your sub is a dual 4ohm, wiring a single coil wouldn't make the amp go into protection (well it shouldn't). The amp wont even acknowledge that the other coil exist.

yea we got it hooked up to the h/u... it was working yesterday, then it would just go to protection mode and turn off.

woops, i guess it is single voice coil... it says on the site

well then why is it going into protection and then turning off?

there's a few screwy things about your system.. including the power wire going through the hood/door and other things. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a series of small things that only someone with a lot of experience could point out. This is difficult to do online.

well where can i go to get this figured out and fixed? its not my fault, my friend is just an idiot. he said he knew how to install it so i believed him and he ended up ****ing it up. when you turn on the engine the amp just shines red for a second and then turns off

should i just take it all apart and bring it to best buy to install it or should i give it to them like this and have them find the problem... which would be cheaper? theres no car audio shops around my area btw

I'd honestly rip it all out and take it to a qualified shop (NOT best buy or circuit city) ot reinstall properly. It will cost you less to take it all out yourself and have them reinstall it than to try to have them troubleshoot and fix all of the problems.

I haven't followed all of your threads.....are you sure the amp actually works?

It was screwed up after it was installed, going into protection and randomly turning off. once we hooked up the remote line to the h/u instead of the fuse box it worked. it worked for all of yesterday... then today it just turned off while i was driving and now it will just show the protection light for a second then turn off when the car is started.

Did you say you had a Power Acoustik OV2-1200? If it goes into protection for a few moments then shuts down, it's probably lost either power, ground, or remote. I learned that after forgetting to put a fuse back in place when I had one. You mentioned in another thread that your power wire went through a door and whatnot, it's very possible it is shorting out occasionally.

I sugguest picking a warm day that you're not working or have school, and re-run the power and ground lines. Mainly that power line.

Worse to worse, follow Squeak's advice. Pull everything, ask a professional installer to handle it for you. But only as a last resort.
