if a coil read 3.0 is it a 2 or 4 ohms

logically it would be a 3 ohm coil.....but in the case of my XXX...i bought it being told its a dual 4ohm sub. My meter has a resistance of 0.5 ohms when i touch the leads together, so i'm assuming that i subtract that from the coil reading. Both coils read 3.4 on my meter and assuming my previous statement is true, that leaves me with 2.9 per coil. 2 ohm or 4? i don't care either way as long as the next sub i buy is close to 2.9 on my meter.

but does you meter read in the thenths? mine just rounds it out, so it might be someting like 2.5 and it's showing you 3.

take the number you get from the resistance (the 3.4 you said) from the subs the then subtract that 0.5 from that number

i've had subs that read from 2.9 to 3.8 for a 4 ohm coil and that was after i let it sit after playin it for a good 30 minutes.

they don't come in 3 ohm coils..... 2 or 4

i have a sub that one vc reads a little differnt from the other. i guess it would be ok to run if it's on the same channel

im gonna say 4 because my tweeters and mids are both rated at 4ohms.. but measured i get 3.4 and 3.6

good point. if u buy used i guess have the person u are buying from put it to a meter. if u are going to buy new.... i don't know.
