if a amp says specs 4ohm 2ohm and 1ohm does it put more strain on the amp at 1 ohm

Yes it will create more heat and strain on the to run it at 1 ohm than 4. Mine puts out 1200w at 1,2 and 4 ohms. I will be running it at 4

ok yea see i wanted to get a rockforte p2 sub enclosed but they are only 1 ohm lol

Doesn't matter if it's stable or not, it will put more "strain" on the amplifier running at lower impedance.
ok good to know the puch inclousers are only 1ohm so that stinks

see im looking at 2 5 channel amps one is a polk audio but it goes from a 4ohm to a 2 to 1ohm and a boston auc that is only 4 and 2 and Im stuck on the whole 1 ohm thing

boston is gta-1105 and the polk is a pa d5000.5

what are the model numbers of each?

Fyi ohms= resistance... Im not 100% on this but I would think higher ohm load = less power which in turn the amp struggles less. Lower ohm load= more power going through which in turn means more heat and harder on internals. Now just because an amp is rated for 1ohm does not mean it runs better at 1 compared to 4. simple test is to hook a sub up at 1 ohm, blast it for a while. Feel how warm the amp is. Now do the same at 4 ohm and I bet you feel a big difference.
