IEC268-5 Standard

Can someone explain to me what this test consist of...
i plan to buy a pair of SB accoustic tweeters and the spec says:

"rated power handling : 100w ( according to IEC268-5)"

is it an RMS rating ?
yes its an RMS rating. I have a pair of SB acoustics neo that handles whatever power i throw at it and begs for more. Retarded power handling. Not soo great efficiency, my massive ckx tweets got a bit louder and crisper details while the sb acoustics neo had stronger upper midrange and so-so treble, overly laid back in the 10k to 16khz range but strong below that kind of like hertz hsk tweets. They are very close in performance just those are the differences. I kept my ckx tweets.

well, those are the ones i'm looking at :

SB29RDCN-C000-4 - Solen Électronique Inc.

what i see on massive audio website is that ckx tweeters are not sold seperately, right ? but there are CT-2 that seems great, a bit less sensitivity and RMS than the SB but i'm more looking for sharp sound than SPL. You think i'd be better with them ?

You can look up an IEC standard with a web search. Watts RMS isn't a real rating, it's a marketing term that's unique to 12V audio. It's meant to be similar to continuous power handling.

Those are the same SB acoustics tweets i had.

When i choose tweeters i dont like that blaring in your face sound. I like it smooth crisp and fully detailed and never harsh sounding with the SSS sounds. Along with being able to keep up with 4 18s. Its a rough order to fill. I'm not sure if those tweets are the same tweets i have, they look similar but could be very different. Being made of german silk seems very promising so if you can get it for around 70 CAD, then give em a shot. However Just warning you, you'd have to have the ability to reduce the 5-8khz range or else they will end up harsh. If you can raise the 12.5khz range as well, they will sound magnificent.

Also look at vifa XT 25 tweeters, You'll need to fire them on axis aka directly at your ears on both sides for the full effect but they impress for the price. Its very cheap and you get a lot of performance for the money dont worry about the RMS, they are pretty sturdy. If not image dynamics XS 28s can work well as well, very laid back vs the massive but detailed.

I'd say you should run those SB acoustics only if you have about 125-150 high quality watts on tap and you'll tap into their true potential if ran with any less with a mediocre or cheap amp, it'll feel very underwhelming in performance. Again when i say performance i'm not talking about SPL. SQ is always the goal. I kinda feel the same way about hertz hsk XL tweeters underwhelming performance for the money you dump into them. You also need an active crossover capable head unit.

Great info ! Thanks !

Ill be rumning everything through a DSP so, i think i'll give SB a shot ! I might get an amp like nvx jad800.4....it seems the rating is certified at 125w x 4....will be running the two hv165xl on it also

my ppi 900.4 is the exact same amp as that nvx. I'd get something a bit more high quality amp wise if you going with that.

Ya, i might be short with the NVX since the hv165xl is 125w. Plus i plan to get C-DSP 6x8 wich max voltage is only 2V. I might wanna get a bigger amp so i could keep the gain as low as possible.

just letting you know, I put up a CT 125.2 against a ppi 600.2 which supposedly does 600 watts bridged while the ct is 380 watts bridged. Tested a sundown SD 10 and the CT was miles louder, hits lower and sounded overall way better than the ppi. The phantom line is regarded as on of the best amps for the pricing and has been tested to do a lot of power however the CT was just overall superior in every way. Not all power is created equally. If its class D and under 250 dollars, i'd skip it. You get better results with a 200 dollar class a/b instead.

if you want good results with a class D you'd want a high quality korean built one Generally pretty pricey. like the alphard 200.4 or crescendo symphony or ct 200.4

I see that AT125.2 is on sale on CT website for 99,99$ ! I think im gonna jump on it tomorrow and buy 2 of those !! Whatchu think ?

No its this one. Used to have couple hundred 5 star reviews but after being renamed as tymphany, their reviews got reset lol.
Peerless by Tymphany XT25SC90-04 1" Dual Ring Radiator Tweeter
Just bought a pair, 56 $ CAD....pffff give me 10 of those ! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif For such a low cost, if i'm not satisfied i'm just gonna buy something else... i just discovered this dealer last week. It's around 15min from my place and they have a shitload of components in stock, C-DSP 6x8 as well. ordering it right now !

Need to figure what amp to buy to run those Xt25 with the two hv165xl. And still can't make up my mind on what sub to run with it ! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif
