IDMAX vs. W6v2 for SQ

Hey guys,

Okay as i stated in a previous thread, i am looking to throw a JBL BP1200.1 at one of these. It will do 600watts in a 4 ohm load as well (W6v2). I am mostly concerned with SQ as i listen to a lot of Acoustic as well as some rock. Not much rap sees my system, nor do i want to overpower my front stage. I just want a kick in the chest from the bass drum, or the nice vibratto of a bass guitar. I plan on running these in a sealed enclosure.

Which do you recommend and why? I can get both of these subs ,12inch, for $225 shipped (used of course).

Also, assuming they are in the same condition, which is a better deal at $225

Will the JBL amp cook the W6 since it is a DVC 4ohm and i would have to wire it at 2ohm load which would be 1200 watts???? Could i get around that with gain settings or should i just go for the IDMAX? I can't buy another amp right now unfortunately.

The JBL isn't the right amp for the 12W6v2. Don't give it 1200 watts.. You'd be better of to series it and give it 300w @ 8ohms and *properly* set your gains, get a different amp, or get another W6.. These subs are rated at 400w RMS, so if you're going to get another amp keep that in mind. They will perform well with 300w in a ported box.. Better safe than sorry.. Just be careful with too much power or you will regret it.. These subs *don't* need a lot of power to get loud and do what they were designed to do..

I can't comment on the IDMAX, but I love my W6's.. Loud and accurate..

At $225 and in MINT condition, the IDMAX is a steal.

W6v2 is a very accurate & efficient subwoofer, but will come NOWHERE close to the output of an IDMAX as well as low-end extension.

Me personally? I'm an SQ nut and don't send more than 1kW to my subs (anymore), but I like dynamic headroom and an IDMAX offers just that -- and at $225 shipped? Hell, I'd take one.

Two w6's would take that power nicely, though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif
And would cost considerably more than $225.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

So basically, get the MAX? haha

i would like to have the W6's, but i just don't have the right amp. I also don't have the $$$ to get another W6 or a different amp. Not to mention i don't feel as bad about sending the power to the IDMAX versus the JL W6.

Any more suggestions guys?
