ID8 vs RE8

After taking out what I could in the trunk to see what kind of room I gotta work with I may have to rethink this. I planned on putting these in the stock location which is in the back deck of the car just inside the trunk. Though right under the deck is the gas tank (year great spot for it I know). I only got 3 3/4-4" of room between the tank and the deck. I should have another 1 1/2-2 1/2" above the deck to still build the box. So I'm looking at boxes that are 6 1/2" tall, 9-10" wide and 9-10" deep... at most. I'll have to take out the interior tomorrow or Fri to find out for sure. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I have 2 RE8s in a 1.5cube ported box, running off a PG Xenon400.1 that puts out 425rms. they sound great. even shook my rearview mirror loose the other day. Don't know what they'lll meter on this setup, but with a 300 watt amp they hit 131db@40hz on dash and 133.3db@49hz in the kick.

amd btw. tje RE8s are 250rms now, not 175

You try looking up the Gto forum's, meet someone with a Gto last weekend at the meet and he said that people are putting 8's back there on the deck.
Yes but those that do are running them free air. I doubt I could do that with either of these subs. Only a selected few have actually took the time to build boxes for them. One guy was crazy enough to fit 2 12" subs back there, of course he had to cut apart his gas tank to do so...

If I had to we got quite a bit of room in the rear quater panels of the car behind the plastic panels. Some companies build prefab boxes to mount in there. That's not something I'm really wanting to do, but something I might have to do.

sq = teh better when freeair.

as long as they are acutally FREE AIR and not just mounted in a place where theres tons of holes and shit.

why dont you take some damn pictures so we can see what you are working with?

I guess pics would help.

Here is where I would like to put them...

There is not much room to work with there. If I did it I would cut out the rear deck and try to fab up some boxes there. Though I honestly doubt I can get a box big enough in that space.

My other option is to put it in the side panel...

A company actually makes these but it would be cheaper and better to build one. There would be around .3-.5cbft per panel this way. Though the issue with doing this is if the box is too deep the plastic panel will not go back on cuz the armrest hits the box/sub. I'm not really looking to do a lot of cutting to this car... especially cutting off the armrest and trying to fab something up that looks good.

If I could try the ID8's out IB first that is what I will probably do. Then if it's not enough output I will have to build something in the side panels.

How much power can the ID8's take IB? I'm looking to buy an amp 600-800WRMS @ 2 or 1 ohm.

I've ordered the ID8V.3-D2's. I'm going to run them IB first... as said I'm going to buy an amp around 600-800WRMS @ 2 ohms. Is that going to be too much for them IB? I would rather buy something alittle bigger than needed so if I decide to do future upgrades, etc.

If its too big, adjust the gains down to compensate (headroom). Yes, running IB decreases mechanical power handling, so watch they dont bottom out. If you do it right and are satisfied with the output, you're gonna absolutely love the SQ running those IB. Cheers.
