I will say the "Ron Paul" sign will stay in my yard until the election is over. He has no chance but he stands for 85% of what I believe in and considering the "voting for the lesser evil" is bullpucky I stand by my statement.

It should be noted that Australia does not have a bill of rights (it is the only Western country that doesn't).

However, for the purpose of discussing the rights of Americans (since that is where most of you who have supported such comments are from), we might as well discuss what the United States was founded on and actually means. By the way, it doesn't take balls to say what Howard did....it takes ignorance.

So, the first and most important thing to recognize is the Constitution, and specifically the Bill of Rights.

The First Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press;
There are two very obvious impacts here: first, people are free to speak whatever language they please. To even suggest that someone should (or has to) learn English to live in the US is a violation of the first amendment. Although I think kicking people out because of their belief in Sharia law is a violation of the first amendment, even worse is the notion that someone needs to like or get used to a Christian god or get out of the country.

The Fourteenth Amendment is also important:

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
So believe it or not, those who move to the US from other countries have all the rights and freedoms to do and say as they please that you are so proud of for yourself.

I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture.

When someone moves to the US and is granted entry into the country, they agree to the Constitution and the laws based on it. They do not agree to behave the way that you think they should....they do not agree to be just like you. Perhaps if people practiced a little more tolerance (why does someone speaking a different language even matter to you?), people could get along more peacefully.

Australia has an almost 1:1 male:female ratio. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, there were 99 males for every 100 females as of 2004.

1000% agreed but I had my chance to get people to to google Ron Paul. Don't rain on my parade please. My point was in a VERY round about way is Ron doesn't tell you what you want to hear, he is very up front and TOTALLY lives by the constituation. It is time to quit voting for the lesser of the evil and vote for the one guy that wont take money from someone to get elected.....pretty friggin obvious who runs this country....it aint the president or congress or the senate.

 
Well, I agree that Ron Paul has some excellent and fundamentally sound ideas. Unfortunately, he is the opposite of what the American people have chosen in a President for as long as I can recall.

ok, but what about illegals? you speak of those who are granted citizenship, who come in legally. those folks usually speak english (i believe they have to learn it), are sworn in on the bible and deserve some consideration.

true, at one time just about all of our ancestors were "illegals". and basicly stole the land from those who were here first. no arguement from me on that.

Actually, the US would need to change its laws first. You have to be born in the US (not naturalized) to run for President. Mind you, there are some Californians trying to change that law because they think that Arnold Schwarzenegger deserves a chance at the US Presidency.

Kent, this conversation has nothing to do with illegals. It is completely about immigrated people. Illegals have no rights one way or the other in the US except for the right to a fair immigration application.

i disagree about the article and illegals. while they aren't spelled out, australia doesn't have mexico as a border country. and in the US, some people consider illegals to have more rights then natural citizens. so, IMHO, illegals are indeed part of the immigration issue and some of the PC bullshit that has come with it.
