Well, an unidentified person is prowling around in the yard in the middle of the night. Some people dont play that shit. Some people would shoot first ask questions later. Not that I would have shot anyone. But if I were scared for my life...I might take out a knee or something before realizing it was a police officer in your situation.

I'm not gonna shoot someone unless it means saving my life... or my family, girlfriend, etc. And if I ever do shoot someone, it'll be to kill.

My dad would have shot them, called 911, & went back to sleep. He doesn't play that shit.

Me too. I'd almost rather die than live having known that I killed someone. It would be too much for me to handle at this stage of my life.

I understand them checking things out immediately, given the circumstances of the recent crimes, but their approach ******.

Exactly my point. Wouldnt it be better suited for the police to knock/ring the doorbell instead of peeping through the windows and prowling around the yard? Most people wouldnt think about that being law enforcement. Most would assume it was someone casing the house for a robbery. And some people are paranoid enough to shoot ANYONE doing abnormal things in their yard in the middle of the night.

I would have probably cussed them out after finding out they were police. And then I'd still want to talk to someone higher up to let them know that they had officers prowling around my yard at 3 a.m. instead of simply knocking. that just seems so messed up.

They definitely handled the situation wrong. My first instinct was to grab my Glock 27 .40 & protect myself/friends. I never in my life want to shoot anyone, I don't think life would be all that pleasant knowing you've took someones life, regardless of the situation. Haha yeah I found out in a gun control thread here that most people (at least in the Thunderdome) are gun friendly. I've seen some firearms handled by cops in similar situations be handled pretty rough. I can't imagine what I would do if I found my S&W 19 or AR-15 were mistreated by law enforcement.

Either way, cops should have knocked first then snooped later. I almost took a baseball bat to the dome snooping around my friends house at night.
