Is it possible to throw away the sub i got now, and make my own? I wanna keep the speakers and wiring of course, and just want to make a new sub+enclosure for it. Would i need to break open my stock sub and rip out what's in there?

I bought two HiVi B3s (~10 each) with 10 terminal cups for under 30 shipped. GEt ao receiver and a small sub and you're good to go.

I hate to say it, but follow Dave's advice and you should notice quite an improvement...Radio Shack used to sell a small integrated amp for ~40 bucks (you don't need a receiver for something like this, necessarily), a pair of full range speakers, and a small plate amp/subwoofer. 5 of em coupld probably be had for under 300$ if you look around....

Unless your computer was like 200$

what i did that was super easy is hook my computer to my jvc mx-gt88 shelf system, its got some thump to it, really doesnt sound too bad. if you go the ebay route i bet you can find something cheap.

and jvc calls the ports 'giga-tubes' so it must be the craziest thing ever, hah.

And a properly done PAIR of FR125s will be over 200 dollars more than likely.

Look at the thread I created a day or two ago. The cost of my computer sound system is right at what I paid when I made my computer, which was around 1k. The value of the system is probably more than the computer by a ways now, considering it includes 2 back loaded horns made outa walnut.
