I-Pod question

I am still in my 90's stage, so far refusing to evolve into a modern day MP3 era. But, the convenience of an I-Pod is hard to say no to.

My question came up when people told me about I-Pod's needing to be "reset". I can only imagine that's similar to when I bring my computer to my computer geek friend's house and have him whipe everything off it and I basically start completely new. Now when it's reset and you put your music back on it, do you need to put each CD individually on it again, or can you take all music from a hard drive and put it on there at once?

I was figuring if you need to put them on there individually time and time again, it would not be worth it, as I have easily 1,000 + CD's and would take an 80 or 100 gig I-Pod and fill it up in no time.
