i messed up...

Interesting. I just bought a new Ipod. I have an old one that has a lot of music from another library. I have not plugged my old one into this competer for fear I would lose all those songs.
But if I understand Bikini correctly I can change the synch setting and then use one of these programs to import all the songs from my old one. Is that right?
Yea, pretty much.

Actually, one method is to turn on hidden folders in the windows explorer (if you're using windows). Then plug in your ipod. You'll have TONS of folders that will be labeled something like "F01", "F02", etc. Those have the songs in them, though it's a huge PITA if you're trying to search for particular songs. But, if you want to copy the entire iPod you can just do a copy & paste with windows Explorer by the method I described above.

Keep in mind, I'm recalling this from memory. I have iTunes set to autodetect and I haven't had this issue in a while.

If they are purchased songs, you can do i without extra software. You have to have the newest version of iTunes. Change the sync setting so it doesn't sync automatically. Click file, then "transfer purchases from iPod." Also you might just be able to drag and drop the songs back into your library. Just make sure you have it set to NOT sync automatically.

Hmm, as far as I know they were either bought are ripped from CD's. The ones purchased under itunes would not, however, been bought under my account. I don't know whether that would make a difference. Most were from CD's.

While the experts are here, I never could get itunes to take my credit card to set up my account. It kept saying that the address was wrong. Can I download fom the itunes stor just using one of those giftcards? I would really prefer to do it that way.

I don't use iTunes store, but I would imagine you could.

I have so much to learnz even though I have had my old nano for about a year. I just ripped the songs off of a friend's computer.

All you have to do is authorize your computer under whatever account you got the songs from. Then it will work just fine. As for the CDs, if you can't find an easy way to do it for free, I would just go ahead and import all the CDs into iTunes. And yes, you can just download iTunes music using the giftcard things. You just wn't be able to use the "1-touch" buying thing.
