So against all advice I purchased a VOLFENHAG ZX-8400 2 CH 2000 WATT AMPLIFIER on EBay for $100 that is rated to put out 600 Watts Bridged to 4 ohms

Hooked it up to my pair of Pioneer tens rated at 350 Watts each, So Im going to send about 45 volts to my subs. Basicley my 2 subs are together for 4 ohms total load and my amp is rated 600 watts at 4 ohms. I use my meter and set the gain to 45 Volts AC using 45Hz 0db test tone. Should be will under the rated power the amp is capable of.

It sounded awesome for about 30 seconds and then my truck filled with smoke.

Put my Rockford fosgate P4002 back in which is giving the subs about 500 watts I believe.

Question is this, Dude is sending me a new amp of course. Should I try it again or just leave the punch amp there until I can afford a better amp?

Thanks Biker

Ok before you all tell me to get a good amp I guess what I am really asking is this. Is there any chance this amp can work or will it go out again?

Thanks Biker

My question is this ~

Did you bridge the amp and then connect both subs to the bridged mono output from the amp?

That amp isn't designed to run lower than 4 Ohms when bridged //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I have 2 Pioneer TS-W257/D4 connected together for total 4 ohm load. Subs are rated at 350 Watts RMS each so I decided to send about 550 watts to them.

I hooked the subs up to the bridged connections and using a 0db 45 hz test tone I set the gain to 46 volts ac with my HU at 30/35.

X-over set to LP 45hz. The Bass sounded awesome for about 30 seconds and then came the smoke. Now when I turned on my system the Subwoofers drive up and stay there. The only thing that still works is the retarded blue lights everywhere, Even the terminals. SUCKS!

So my RF 4002 is providing about 450 watts and its ok but I can tell there under powered.

The seller is sending me a new amp. So do I try it again? For sure if I do and it smokes its going straight to the garbage can. Not waisting any more money shipping it back.

Yea there everywhere on ebay

So you say I coulda got a better amp. So what exactly is wrong with this amp. Its German made. Its heavy, is it really that bad or is it an EBayer selling seconds? or did I just get unlucky and the new one will work fine.

Its not rocket science amplifing a line signal to 600 watts is it? anyway Im getting frustrated thinking about this amp, just all chime in. Try it or dump it?

Thanks

Volfenhag is more or less generally considered in the same quality level as Legacy or lower-level Lanzars or the like.

When you can buy two of their 12s, an enclosure, and an amp made by them from Pep Boys for under $200 I wouldn't start believing they're anywhere near being a "quality" item //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

When looking into "budget" amps my personal goto suggestion is almost always a Profile product. I've used several of them in the past and each of them was worth what I paid for it.

Look for an eBay seller with the username barneyselectronics. He usually has a pretty good inventory of Profile amps and he ships fast. You'd be looking at around the same amount of money and getting a better product in my humble opinion...

So against all advice
You tell us. What kind of advice did you get about Volfenhaag amps? I didnt do a search but im pretty sure there are less than stellar reviews or opinions about that brand.

I knew a guy who had Volfenhaag subs and amps and swore it was the loudest thing ever and only cost $100 or something. He said he never had a problem with it so as long he was happy I didnt say anything.

WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? didn't I listen to you all. Why do I always learn the hard way. Why did I send 200 watts to my first Infinity kappas rated at 55 watts. WHY was I worried about loud sounding speakers when the road noise was louder than the music. WHY did I cancel an order for a brand new JL Mono amp and order the VOLFENHAGE WHY WHY.Why did my wife leave me? why did my kids change there last name? WHY? are my Ho's on strike, they make $20 an hour and want more.

MODERATOR please delete this thread Im throwing the amp in the garbage can.

Thanks Biker

LOL!

If the subs just go OUT and don't come back in when you turn on the amp you have shorted some of your output transistors or driver transistors in the amp. Easy fix, but if it's warranty, just send it back.

Better yet get your money back, re-order the new JL or something.....

LOL!
