Well my rear batt ground was accidently unhook (**** terminal too small) for an unknown time. Last week, my amps shuts down. I realize the ground wasn't tight was I removed the box and checked my connection in the wheel pit.

There's an stinger gp32 200 amp isolator between my front and rear batt. Right after i put the rear batt ground back, the rear batt wasn't charging. I did some extensive test with a dmm and the problem is indeed between the +12v before/after the isolator.

Could it have blown because more than 200amp got through it because my rear was discharged? anything i could do to fix it?

I feel dumb... I blew a ****ing isolator... an isolator!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif

canadians.........

Try removing the rear batt completely and see if you get 12v on the output of the isolator.

Was the ground completely removed? Or was it loose and making contact once in awhile?

If it was loose it would cause arcing and I could see that messing stuff up. But if it was just removed then your isolator should be fine but you may have damaged your batt by discharging it too low.

The rear batt ground was loose and finally give up. I don't thing there was sparks or anything like that since the ground terminal fall on some damplifier.

I opened the isolator last night and there was an unsolder wire on one of the 12+ rail. I fixed that last night and i'll try it again today.

Yeah, i'm a ****ing canadian //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

for real i've never seen that beer in Quebec, only in west canada and usa //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif It might be because we, in Quebec, aren't really canadian...

Isolators are the devil. 1/2 volt drop, plus they will burn up the alternator if yo uever run one of the batteries down. Do yourself a favor and just paralell your batts.

There's under .1v drop from my selenoid isolator. Why wouldn't we understand what an isolator is? And Mechman, the resting rate of the higher battery won't drop when the car is off. I don't understand how it could be worst for the alty. explain

and yeah i'm what we call a "frog"

I doubt anyone here knows what an isolator actually is...
OK, I'll give it a shot!

A battery isolator will allow you to completely discharge one battery without discharging the starting battery. There are basically 2 types; diode and solenoid (relay). Solenoid is more popular than diode because diode based isolators cause a .4 to .6 volt loss which means that the batteries will not charge to as high a voltage as when they are connected directly to the alternator. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nerd.gif.c6fa51ddf7ff75f1c0371fbc648f70ae.gif
