i just passed my unrestricted MA. Supervisor construction test...

Well, I too have my home improvement contractors licence, as well as my OSHA 10, (needed for gov and state work, Which I do) and working on that new cert for painting contractors.Plus I had a subsciption to CA&E mag.

Now that validates nothing other than the fact you like looking at hundreds of JL and Rockford ads

yes, the two things dreaded on job sites..OSHA and INS...
WHy the fawk would you take an OSHA class , did you have to?? Seems like a waste of probably a few hundred bucks to me..

But yea Watching OSHA walk in the door gives you bubble guts, even if you know nothings wrong.. pricks

yes, In MA, for 2010, all construction supervisors and home improvement contractors will need to complete a osha 10. (10 hour class)

Also, there is a new cert that will be needed for painting. ppl need to have it by mid April, or face a fine if caught.

Oh yea, I also have 2000 documented hours in Electrical training. (4 years)

I work in State owned properties, So they want every thing followed.

I cant even keep up with codes.. In building new homes there could be 20 different changes in a year.. Frustrating as shit.....

yes, With all the new building materials and equipment, such as metal studs, Spary foam insulation, composite materials, direct vent appliances. its a challange to keep up. I have the 2010 residential and commercial codes on disks, so I can refer to them on my laptop on site if needed. But for the most part its common sense.

I bet that new painting cert will be a big money maker for states. Plus it will keep ppl from causing damage to ppl and enviorment with improper lead paint work, and hazmat disposal.

HIC and CSL licenses:

There are two types of construction licenses that a contractor can qualify for and obtain in the state of Massachusetts. The first type is the Home Improvement Contractor's license (HIC) and the second is the Construction Supervisor's License (CSL).

The HIC license is the most common construction related license. Any individual or company providing any type of construction or remodeling services in the state is required to have this. There is no test associated with obtaining HIC certification. Any individual or company that is in good standing qualifies for this license. The main purpose of this certification is to provide a means of accountability, through the ability of the state and consumers to file and track complaints about individuals and companies based on their state issued HIC number. This license also allows the holder to apply for and obtain building permits for homeowners, commercial businesses or state agencies for projects that do not entail any structural modifications.

If a contractor has only HIC certification then they are only qualified by the state to be providing services such as siding, roofing or cabinetry, to name a few. They cannot obtain permits for projects like home additions or new home construction. For those types of projects you need to have both an HIC license and a CSL license.

A CSL license is only issued after the individual has passed the state's Construction Supervisor's License examination. This exam tests the applicants knowledge of the Massachusetts Building Code.

CSL licensing is required to obtain permits for projects that will include any type of structural work. Also individuals that are employed in a supervisory role over other individuals engaged in structural construction projects are required to have a CSL.

No I cant buy dynomite, But I can legaly hire someone who can.

This is the new EPA shit coming out.

The fines for not being certified will be high, Some say as high as $30,000 for each violation.

Anything to make money.

Information for Contractors

As a contractor, you play an important role in helping to prevent lead exposure. Ordinary renovation and maintenance activities can create dust that contains lead. By following the lead-safe work practices, you can prevent lead hazards.

Contractors who perform renovation, repairs, and painting jobs in pre-1978 housing and child-occupied facilities must, before beginning work, provide owners, tenants, and child-care facilities with a copy of EPA's lead hazard information pamphlet Renovate Right: Important Lead Hazard Information for Families, Child Care Providers, and Schools (PDF) (20 pp, 3.3MB) | en español (PDF) (20 pp, 3.2MB). Contractors must document compliance with this requirement?EPA?s pre-renovation disclosure form (PDF) (1 pp, 36K) may be used for this purpose.

Understand that after April 22, 2010, federal law will require you to be certified and to use lead-safe work practices. To become certified, renovation contractors must submit an application and fee payment to EPA.
