And thanks neverenuff! I took it @ a prometric testing site. Took me about an hour. Section 1 kicked my *** lol

Its a bullshit test. I'm basic certified cus my old roomate was an installer at best buy and I helped him study for it and by the time we were done I figured I might as well take the test too. I don't really even need it.

The basic is all bullshit questions, anyone with common sense and minimal electrical knowledge can pass it. But if you work in the industry and the certification gets you a pay raise might as well do it. The advanced test is much harder and requires some experience. I haven't taken it yet but have studied for it.

Neverenuff, do you have the study guide? I wish I had studied chapters 1 and 3 more. However, they throw in a bunch of random questions - lots of acronyms, a few antenna mounting questions, fiberglass mixture, etc.

And I agree. Basic is just what it states - basic. Advanced isn't anything insane, but it's definitely challenging - or was for me. I aced all the troubleshooting questions. What I had trouble with was a bunch of questions on the different types of inductors and some of the acronyms.

And I knew some of you would knock the test. The way I see it is hey, I'm getting the test paid for me and I'm getting paid to go and take the test, and then my pay increases once I pass - so why wouldn't I take it? Plus it lasts 4 years and will help ease customers to tell them you're certified in mobile electronics.

And worstenemy, I think they took all the practice tests down quite some time ago...

bad4health I really can't give you any pointers! lol. They recently re-worked the Basic exam and it's different from when I took it last year when it was a bit outdated. I remember there were questions about car phones and stuff.
