sounds like your suspension is not holding the former tight enough at high excursions and the former is slaping the pole piece wen that occurs.

First, DD has a different Motor than any of the other look a like subwoofers. Bigger magnets (at 228mm O.D.) and all the others are at 220mm O.D. (American Bass, Audio Que, Konaki, SPL Dynamics, & Zapco) The DD's magnets are 406 oz. and the rest are 330 oz. The DD also has better cooling channels on the T-Yoke and through the top plate. All the others has the crossed drilled holes in the pole vent of the T-Yoke.

The DD uses single level spiders with 2 stiff and 4 soft for 6 layers on there spiders and a 4 layer round copper wire voice coil. The AQ uses a single layer spider with 4 spiders and an 8 layer flat wound aluminum voice coil. The AB uses a single layer with 4 spiders and an 8 layer flat wound aluminum voice coil. The Konaki uses two layers with two spiders per layer (the spiders on this sub are a lot stiffer than on the AQ) and a 4 layer round copper wire voice coil. The SPL Dynamics uses 3 spiders single layer and a 4 layer round copper wire voice coil. The Zapco uses miror dual layer spiders with 2 spiders per layer and an 8 layer flat wound aluminum voice coil.

Last time I talked to Bob, he said they were going with a 8 layer flat wound aluminum voice coil, but that was back about 2 to 3 months ago. It could be a 4 layer round wire voice coil. I will double check with Bob on Monday!

well, actually the AQ uses the 8 layer aluminum coil OR the 4 layer copper coil. also i think DJ said the AQ uses 6 spiders.

pretty much spot on. people are just trying to see if its worth it to step away from the HDC, since its so ridiculously low priced.
