I just blew my amp, and now need a new one.

Sorry to thread jack, but i was looking into picking up the memphis mojo 4k amps this summer, but you said you have had problems. Any details ?

Ok, I don't have an HO alt, but I have for batteries.

The sub is wired at 2 ohms and the gains are set less than half.

I was just driving around and with the radio half cranked, then the volts dropped bad and started to smell so I stopped, unhooled everything and a little smok was coming out of the sub

With a budget around $500 and an Omega, I'd probably look into the Crunch GP3000D-PRO. If you wanna go used, there's probably a few more options as well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

smoke was coming out of the sub...and you think the amp blew?

perhaps a decent supply of power...or you'll be back at it.

Low voltage will be the death of any power amplifier but the Memphis MOJO 4kw also has a weakness with its transistors. Memphis DOES NOT support their circuit boards enough and as a result, the transistors vibrate loose over time causing problems. Until Memphis car audio addresses the transistor problem, I have scratched them off of my "to buy" list. I had one Memphis amp that I purchased authorized replaced 2x under warranty and two transshipped Memphis amps arrive DOA resulting in carrier claims.

Well yeah but was the smoke coming out of the speaker? Lets face it, with a starving power supply the amp AND the speaker have troubles.

Looks like the OP should upgrade his alternator first! Four batteries and a Memphis MOJO 4KW is one helluva load for a stock alternator!
