Okay, here's a bit of defense for the OP as he's obviously taken offense.
Laws are standards for behavior. We are a society defined by our laws.
However, no standard is truly a standard unless it's enforced 100%. When leadership, or persons of authority ignore a standard, then they've just created a new standard. Case and point, the 5 mph rule. 5 mph over the speed limit IS breaking the law. Rolling a stop sign IS breaking the law. We take advantage of that because we know 95% of the time the letter of the law will not be enforced.
So, even though 95% of authority may allow for a lower standard, the 5% is in the right, and not the 95%.
So what the OP and many of you are complaining about is being held to a high standard, and the letter of the law.
