Whether bandpass boxes are good or not is up to your preference. They are a little louder, but the bass notes aren't as tight. You get a 'boomier' sound. Also, a generically built bandpass box only does a basic job with any sub, for a bandpass box to sound really good, it should be tuned to match the particular sub. with custom tuning, I think that a bandpass box can sound really good. I had owned a one-box-fits-all type bandpass and the bass notes sounded all 'smooshed' together. Not much sound definition.
