LOL just kidding!!!!......this is actually a question about the maximum decible level that is possible to be reached...didnt i hear someone say 190 or 194?...i was just curious what the actual number was and why it isnt possible to exceed it....also, what is the highest decible level ever reached by competitors?...just curiuos, wouldnt it make sense taht if we know the scientific reasons why we cant surpass 194 db's, shouldnt we be able to get a little closer to 194?...or am i just full of BS:D ?...thanks for help!

Im not exactly sure what the highest db is, but i know u can't go higher then that because of the atmospheric pressure. When u go under water though, submarines and such can go upwards of 220db.

Let me know how it feels if u ever hear something in the 190db range.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

lol i dont think i will be fortunate enough for taht one...funds are limiting me to a HU, 6x9's, and tweets, so I dont expect to be hitting 190 with tthat setup:p ....heh

194 is close enough - and the reasoning is because you have compressed atmosphere - literally.

freq freq freq.. just because something is "loud" doesn't mean it has enough energy to do damage to living things.. especially things built to live in high pressure environments.. Think about it.. if Whale song would kill things around it, how would they survive? they would kill a LOT more than they could eat, and would eventually diminish the food reserve..

Just because you can create a 220 dB wave in water (compressed atmosphere) doesn't mean it's at a point in the sound spectrum that will have direct effect on things.. I mean, come on.. we have RADIO waves passing through our bodies ALL THE TIME and they are a LOT more than 220 dB.. 10s of thousands of watts..

It's all about the freq..

i think if a woofer could move at, or slightly above mach1, it would compress air molecules to their maximum level of compression- this would be the highest SPL that could be reached in air...it would also create a gap (vaccum) behind the cone and i think would make a small sonic boom. this is based upon what i learned in physics - i could be wrong

And they wonder why these whales are all dying "mysteriously (spl)?
