I got f*cked by paypal/bank

well, i was being a nice guy and decided to help my mother pick out a computer for my younger brother to start college with. he needs something cheap, so i go on ebay and get a buy it now laptop from a power seller (former corporate use computer). i add my mom's credit card to my paypal account and pay for the computer.

this was on friday. computer arrived today, but she knows nothing about them, so i hope it all works properly. i'll have to go home this weekend and check it out.

anyways, i go to check my bank account today (weds) and my balance is -$400!!!!

turns out paypal charged the computer to my bank account, which overdrafted my account. then, somehow over the weekend i managed to use my card 10 times for a total of $330 in overdraft fees!!!!!

that negative $400 was soon to be negative $565 once the next day's worth of fees got tacked on. i put $500 into the account and talked to the banker. he seemed understanding of the **** up and since i've never overdrafted before he refunded me half of the fees (max they'll allow). which pretty much just saved me from getting another $165 taken from my account.

i guess it's my fault for doing something incorrectly with paypal. BUT i'm pretty positive i didn't. i added her card specifically for this purcahse and it was my intent to charge it to that card. i don't know where i went wrong, but i must have overlooked somthing (that's what the paypal guy told me).

the bank has done all they can (even though i find the overdraft policy of banks' ridiculous, i wish my card just would have gotten declined), and there's no way paypal's gonna give me any money (i can't really prove whether or not it was even their mistake).

i have bills due, so it looks like i'll be borrowing more money //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

i'm still pissed, but i don't think there's much else i can do //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

thoughts/suggestions?

well I had a problem one time where I signed up for something, and they wrongfully sharged me, I called them and got the to put the money back in my account, after that happened the bank took away all the overdraft fees because it wasn't really my fault, I got wrongfully charged.

Have you called PayPal, if not you might want to

ya, your mom's credit card didn't go through, so they charged it to your bank account
you ****ed yourself
nope, transaction shows the credit card as backup for the bank account.

Always DOUBLE check the funding options when you pay. It always selects the primary funding option first. Since you just added her card, it obviously wasn't the primary option.

the card was set to my primary credit card, and the bank account is my only account with paypal and it's shown as primary under bank accounts.

i guess it went with the primary bank account instead of the primary credit card. i could have sworn i did everything i thought i had to, to charge it to the card, but i guess i must have missed something.

called paypal, they don't seem like they're gonna do anything. he was kind enough to send me an e-mail on how to properly choose what you want payapl to take the money out of //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

the banker didn't seem like he was gonna do anything until i mentioned the paypal charge (which initiated this whole mess) was a mistake. he told me it was their policy to only give back half of the fees, so that's what i got.

yeah, but i probably still would have ****ed up the paypal //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yeah, right now, i'm sending a broken amp back for exchange.

it was $27 for return shipping, and if/when they decide to send me a new one i think i'm gonna have to pay for that shipping as well //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I was in the SAME EXACT SITUATION except for I was buying my mom a ~$400 cell phone on eBay (Cingular 8125 before it even came out). Bank of America wouldn't give me a break on overdraft fees //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
