Why not just let the ****** shift itself? I had 35's on a Comanche 4.0 & auto, shifted just fine in its own.

my 89 and 96 XJs both ran 33s and 35s in their lifetimes and the ****** / 4.0 were the last things to go out even with rocking my way outta holes, driving 60mph on the way home, and jumping one of the jeeps off a hill that utterly destroyed my front diff...

ya but it doesn't hurt an automatic... most of the time I don't even hit the brake when shifting from reverse through neutral to drive.. I just roll to about 3-5 mph and shift, doesn't make noises or kick or anything, won't hurt it. Just don't shift from D to R or R to D going 5+ mph, and yes to the smart *** that said automatics only had a D, some (like jeeps) also have a 1, 2, 3, etc.

Just slam on the gas next time and the ****** will automatically downshift.

But manually shifting an auto is no big deal. Why do you think they have autosticks on just about every car out there now?

exactly if you want to shift dont drive automatic transmission

i just dont understand why you wouldnt put it in D to drive on the highway i thought the gears were for when you needed more traction or to keep torque or something when off roadin

It's broke because he downshifted into second rather than third. If you pay attention, there is no problem to shifting that way. When you only have 4 gears, a 2 gear downshift can be a problem.

what really sucks here is that i bet like most automatic cars ive owned if you put the pedal to the floor it automatically downshifts for you. i know my ***** Am, T-bird, and both civics do.

First off, everyone telling me that shifting it is bad... Stop, and think about what you're saying.

Shifting an auto without letting off the gas is hardly different than shifting a manual while using the clutch. Both use a clutch, just that one is controlled electronically or fluid actuated.

Yeah shifting a automatic is retarded and I should just buy a manual, but don't tell me that it's bad.

Obviously it SHOULD downshift for me, but don't you think I've tried that before?

Putting it to the floor in OD doing 110 with stock gearing and 33's gets me no where. Believe me.

This isn't the first time I've driven a vehicle.
