But lets see if you will:

Do you own your own business and work for someone?

Are you putting money away for a college fund?

Where do you live?

Whats your present college debt you will have?

and this is making 200K take home.

Also the spending money unwisely comment, of which things I stated was "unwise"

i already did ask an older person. my neighrbor is 40 years old, makes $85,000 a year after tax, owns a 2003 Acura TL Type S and a 2003 Lexus GS 300, and owns a $450,000 house. i asked him if he will have money left to buy his son a brand new car. what did he say? he said yes. why did he say yes? because he had already finish paying for the house. car payment for him is only about $1600 a month including the insurance. average monthly paycheck for him is about $7000 after tax. plus, car payment doesn't last forever. he has 4 more years to pay for the car and then he's done. after that, most of his money will go to the back. by the time his son is 18or so, my neigbor will have enough money for him to go to college. not to mention his son is only 10 right now. i doubt it'll take him more than 8 years to gather up college money. $80k isn't even including his wife yet.

my parents make about $50,000 a year TOGETHER. we just moved into this house a month ago and my parents bought the house for $340,000. after we moved in, we spent thousands of dollars to fix up the house. now my parents pay for my sister's insurance (about $1000 every 6 months) plus my sister's car. i of course will have to work for my insurance, but my parents will buy me my car, a 1995 Acura Legend, upwards of $10K. now you say college money? done with that. my parents planned this out BEFORE i was even born. hell, my dad saved up 5 years before he met my mom.

u can do a lot with a little money....just gotta know how to use it.

And a XXX won't kill you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
lets see..which part plays a big role in accidents..car or driver...

the son/daughter will only drive responsibly if the parents teach them how to be responsible.

Originally posted by Jmac Most deaths involve only one vehicle ... You watch the news at all ? I'm watching a story on the news right now about someone who just crashed a BMW 328i and all 4 occupants died after hitting a tree at what the policeman called, "extremely excessive speed" ... The kid just got the car for a graduation present ...

This is only one case, but look at how often this happens ...

Just wait until you're 20 and you've had several of your friends die from auto accidents ...

I know you understand physics ... I know you understand how much longer it takes a 4,200+ lb. object to decelerate over a 2,500 lb. object ... I know you understand that a 4,200+ lb. vehicle will have lower handling limits than a 2,500 lb. vehicle ... I know you understand that at least 90% (AT LEAST !) of teenagers will do retarded shit when they get in a vehicle at least once ...

Having actually driven an M5, I definitely wouldn't buy my teenage son or daughter one, even if I were a billionare ... I would consider getting him/her a BMW 320i or 328i with a modified suspension and high performance tires ...
Ok..one car accidents, whether it be the 4400 lb SL600 or the much lighter civic...the stopping distances will be similar, the SL is a MUCH bigger car, but it has MUCH better brakes. With more going power comes more stopping power. Say a 2500 lb car with average/crappy brakes was going 70 and is 100 feet from a tree when they slam the brakes, and a 4000lb car is the same distance when they slam their good/great brakes on. I would much rather be in the larger car because it's more protective, and will stop just or almost as fast as the smaller car. If I had the money I would buy my kid a car like the m5..it handles better than 98% of the cars out there, stops faster, etic..etc.. sure it goes faster, but any car can reach lethal speeds, it takes a well tuned car to maneuver safely at those speeds. that and a protective car if the driver does wreck.

*edit* About the heavier car not handling as well, that's taken care of in heavier cars. They've got heavier shocks, struts, etc..w/stiffer springs to accept the added weight. Some of the new volvo's (like the S60R) are quite heavy..but can pull better than .88 or .9 g w/their shocks in the firmest setting (controlled by the driver from the cabin). Also...most any new sporty mercedes is heavy..but yet handles VERY well.

*edit again*...btw..I am 19 almost 20 (14 days) and have had 3 friends die in car accidents.

My parents taught me to drive very responsibly, but that dosent mean I did when I first got a licence. Dosent matter what someone teaches you it matters if you wish to obey it.

And im still standing by the 200K per year take home will not be able to get your kid the M5.
