Drugs

Alcohol will never be outlawed. We already tried that...and it lead to the birth of organized crime in this country. It won't happen again.

Weed being legal? Maybe in fifty years, maybe in a hundred, maybe never...it's not a question of physiology, it's a question of politics. Back in '71 or '72 the Nixon-commission Shaffer report suggested a possible look into the legalization of it, but of course, nothing became of it.

Don't hold your breath.

NegativeEffect1:

for the majority of potheads...i agree. but there are some who (without proper psychological intervention) NEED marijuana. dont think im some pothead defending the shit. i dont smoke anymore, cause i dont like it anymore. i dont do any drugs. but im studying psychology, and there is a strong relationship between some psychological disorders and substance abuse.

For example: an old friends of mine is the biggest pothead i know. smoking 10 times a day is cutting back for him. but i know the kid needs it. he has serious mood problems and without his marijuana he is irritable, forgetful, and clumsy. and this isnt merely an observation from withdraw of the drug. hes like this for weeks/months after quitting. marijuana (along with many other substances) affect sensory receptors and chemicals in the brain (dopamine, seritonin, nueroepinephrin, etc). and these chemicals affect mood, judgement, coordination, and many other things. if the balance of chemicals isnt right in someones brain (i.e. ME, im Bipolar I), people may resort to other means that will balance out the chemicals...whether or not they are harming their own body. i choose prescription, not black market.

Yeah honestly in my opinion the one thing that shouldn't be legal is Alcohol. Yeah I'm not sayin' I haven't gone drinking before, but I have never been wasted. Because In my opinion something that kills your and or causes the majority of deaths in the whole world...shouldn't be something you would either want to buy and or sell to someone knowing it might be the last time they ever see day again.

I'm not some hippi or nothing but really just my view. Smoking and Marijuanna still not right but not as opposed to than I am towards Alcohol. Lost some really good friends due to their immature decisions, one was riding on a full scholarship to Oklahoma Sooners Football team and probably would've been a starting freshman...God rest his Soul

I just don't agree with drugs...never really seen a point in them I guess. They don't satisfy anything, but people do what they want to do.

The original reason behind the illegalization of marijuana is because the cotton industry was afraid of the emerging hemp market. Hemp is stronger and more durable than cotton and new technology post-WWI era made hemp more economical to produce than before. So, the cotton industry started a PR campaign against the hallucinogenic effects of smoking the leaves of the plant that produced hemp while at the same time sending lobbyists to Washington. The primary reason it was banned was not because it could make you high.

Coincidently, hemp products are still relatively scarce in the US because of the high tariffs placed on them which is again because of protectionist policies influenced by the cotton industry.

Offically illegalized, i will have to agree...actually illegalized, we'll leave that to the War on Drugs in the 70's.

I have smoked before, all it does is make me thirsty and out of it. I do not smoke anymore, but I do drink. Legalizing weed would be better for us, the amount of money that the government spends on fighting drugs is rediculous. It could be spent on more useful things. Drinking is bad I agree, we tried illegalizing that once but look how that turned out. The government is screwed up but what are ya gonna do about it.

i dont see a problem wiht smoking as long as its not all day everyday.i think weed isnt legalized because it wont b easy to control and instead of people buying weed teh next drug down the list will become teh gateway drug.

And to teh guys that said eveyrhitng should b illegal i completly disagree. Our contry makes so much money off ciggs and booze, and not all people drink and smoke to get away from problems. Like me i drink cus i love the taste of beer. I get drunk on occation. but alcohol is one hell of alot worse on your body than budd.

our country would be much better if they just legalized all drugs and lightened up on the stupid crimes, and made it a law to carry guns. look at amsterdam, pot isnt a problem there. germany, alcohol isnt a big problem there. and there are places in texas where its illegal to not own a gun...wow, and what do you know, they have a VERY low crime rate. it would take years upon years for the country to adjust, but it would work. fat chance of this ever happening though.

yeah being like amsterdam would b alot better in some ways but bush is our president that guys a fackin idiot

There is so much that could be better about our government. legalizing this, that, ect. people should live their lives how they want to and face the consequences, I think we should try to figure out social security and the old people problem before we do anything else...

yeha man the SS issue is messed up but our contry is never gonna b perfect. i jus wonder what our kids and our kids kids r gonna b bi(chin about.who knows nut tehre r some major improvement that need to b maid to our country.espicaly in cali. mainly the 3 strike law i think its jus BS and needs to be gone cus its jus a piss poor law

They do, however, have stores that sell marijuana paraphenalia, such as bongs, pipes, papers, etc. We even have one in our local mall here ...
This is everywhere...

I dont believe marijuana will be legal anytime soon in the US, because the country would be known as marijuana being legal, think about amster****, would the US want to have that kind of an appearance? highly doubt it. Until it becomes accepted by everyone, it wont be fully legalized.

That being said, i do believe it may get legalized in some states, its already medically legal in many places just like the poster stated, so i believe in states like these it may become legal. Either that or it will become legal only for medical means, but more easily accessible or used more so for treatment.
