the number 40 means 40 cycles per second. it's kinda low but there is material quite a bit lower in a lot of songs. i myself prefer the sound of the low to mid 30's, even higher 20's. you need to find out what that box is tuned to, but being 2 feet per side probably means it's tuned pretty high.

NEVER buy a prefab box if you can avoid it. If you want to know what your box is tuned to, you can go to ROE and download Hz test tones in fairly small increments. Play a bunch of tones in the 25-40hz region. Wherever your woofer moves the least is close to the frequency to which your box is tuned.

40 Hz is a low frequency, but is pretty mid-level for bass. I believe audible bass starts around 20 Hz (not completely sure) and goes up to about 60 Hz. Midbass from 60-300/400. Midrange form 300/400- ~2/3kHz. Treble ~2/3 kHz and up.

Yeah, 20 Hz is the generally stated number for lowest audible frequency. However, many people can hear lower. I've done test with my sub in my home theater, and I can hear down to about 16 Hz. But you can feel that a lot more than hear it...

And just to get an idea of bass...I believe 50 Hz is the tone of the lowest note on a bass guitar (not the electric kind, the big ones...)

You can't "hear" lower than 20Hz, it's just a tactile sensation...you can hear the harmonics of the fundamental note.

40Hz is a pretty high tuning frequency for daily use, unless all of your music consists of hip hop.

No psychoacoustics here, I have clinically proven my hearing extends below 20hz.
If that's true, then you are a fluke, not the norm. If that's the case, I see no need to roll your eyes at people who cannt hear tat low. Most people cannot hear even down TO 20hz much into their early adult life. If yours does, your ears have lead a sheltered life.

Oh and here...

my hearing range is from 11hz to 22,019hz... anything above that i can't hear, i have my own sound lab where i do audio mastering and because of that i check my hearing about every 6 months... guess im far from norm

bttt most music doesn't get below 38hz very few songs do actually most songs sub freq. peak in the 40-65hz range
you can't really say that... even if some songs peak around 40hz-65hz, there's still some lower note playin, just not as loud. The lows kinda complements the high bass notes.
