Hybrid Reliability?

Hey guys, I'm just starting to research cars a bit as I'm going to be buying one come may/june. I need to get something relatively practical due to all the driving I'll be doing for my job (**** consulting). I'm looking into the typical cars, Accords, camry's, passat, mazda6, etc. Anyway I've come across some decent Accord Hybrids and I was basically just wondering what you all thought of them from a mechanical aspect. Have any of you seen many break? If so how traumatizing is the repair bill? The gas mileage advantage is enticing but if its not going to end up saving me much its not worth my trouble. Also any recommendations on cars would be appreciated. Don't recommend me BMW's and Audi's, yeah I'd love one like everyone else, but I also don't want to be broke when I have a problem with it. Thanks guys.

my dad is a honda tech and said he hasnt seen any major mechanical failure in the hybrids. If youre looking to buy new, honda stopped making the hybrid accord for 08 so that may be ruled out unless you can find a leftover.

The hybrids have really stepped up their game recently. If it is a newer model I wouldnt hesitate. I have only towed 5-6 hybrids in 2+ years.

Thats reassuring, I am looking to buy used however if they did stop making them I dont really know how great they could be. I glanced at gas mileage and it said something like 25 city? That isn't even that good...Who knows.

paying an extra 3 to 4 thousand for a hybrid or paying an extra 200-300 dollars for around 5-10 less mpg a year.

your pick.
If he drives 30k a year, and the hybrid gets 40mpg opposed to lets say 30 for the non hybrid, he spends 2250 in gas a year opposed to 3000. In case you are too retarded to subtract thats a 750 dollar difference.

I say get a decent 4 banger Honda Accord and drive the shit out of it. They get pretty good mileage and you don't have to have the headache of they hybird not to mention the beginning price tag. I will not relate to the guy saying if he drives 30k a year. That is just retarded!

I drive 60-70k a year //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif but I drive a diesel.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I used to drive 500 miles a week. That works out to around 25K a year.

I know several people who drive 20K+ miles a year. People who work 30-60 miles away from their home. People with children who live far away. People with cabins/vacation homes. People who travel.

Because you spend a lot of time at home, or around your house, doesn't mean people who go out and do things are retarded.

I appreciate the responses guys, I however will not be driving that much. Majority of my travel will be flying but I'll have the occasional client I've got to drive to. By the looks of it I'd say screw the hybrid, who wants to be smug anyway //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif . Has anyone heard if the new passats are any more reliable than the old ones?

What I am saying how do we know how much he drives? That guy was just basing numbers off assumption. OP never mentioned how much he drives. So really it would base in how much he drives if he was saving money or not.

Never said anything about spending time at home or what not. Don't know how you got that out of that post, lol!
