I'd also recommend ditching the tamiya for deans, but if you're not going to be running a low turn motor, you'll be fine. The ESC can handle down to a 10t motor. You only get overheating when you're over/undergeared, too low of o a motor turn on the car, and a few other reasons. It won't overheat with just a 1500 pack also. I'd recommend going atleast with 2400 so you'll get around 15 mins. run time, but my charger only does NiCd that's included.
