HP Increase From 5.2L

as for the excess sheetmetal around the wheel wells....i didnt think it contributed anything structurally but i guess i could be wrong...i'll ask on another board

its not like i told him to remove the front and rear bumper assemblies...ditch the hood,

take off his headlights and take out any airbags/seatbelts in the vehicle...

hell while you're at it you could even ditch the ac and power steering if you have it. i could see how the power steering might *possibly effect safety...but the ac..it'll just be uncomfortable.

...yikes....i never knew a car could blow up because of the timing, how exactly did that happen..was the car alread modded, or was it stock.. just curious //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

also, i 2nd the headers/exhaust combo... providing your oem components are really that restrictive.
if the engine timing gets so bad to where it knocks horribly some shit can go horribly wrong inside and blow the engine up...but whoever did this probably didn't know what they were doing.

Originally posted by Miller I have heard from alot of people that if you take like your a/c belt off you gain around 30 horsepower...is that a bunch of crap???
you'll gain about 15. maybe a difference of 30 from when the A/C is running to removing it.

Originally posted by thaharlequin ...you wouldnt actually *gain any hp...but you would get a *slightly faster 0-60 time if you removed the ac and all of its components....you'd just increase your power to weight ratio but a small amount...
there is a hp difference b/c the engine no longer has to turn that belt...read above

yes...there is a hp difference (a relatively negligable one if the AC is off and a relatively significant one if its on), but no he still doesnt *gain* any hp... the engine already produces whatever hp @ whatever rpm...

you dont *gain hp by reducing parasitic drag....you just...redirect it.

Originally posted by Miller So what exactly would I have to do to get the HP gain....do i have to take the whole a/c unit out entirely???
to get rid of its drag on the engine just take off the AC belt...if u wanna take it a step further get rid of all the remaining crap...condensor etc...and you'll be lighter yet.

I think i will take my A/C belt off then.....I also had another question...i was thinking about getting a Flowmaster 40 series exhaust muffler....anybody know how much horse that will add or if it will help my 0-60 time????

....hmmm just a muffler...it prolly wont add that much hp....maybe you'll get 2 or 3...all in all i doubt it'll do that much....considering you'll still prolly have the constrictive (i dont really know if it is...but it could be) OEM exhaust components prior to it.

hmmmm...it could, but you must have a super restrictive oem muffler then...also...keep in mind that increasing the size of certain exhaust components might increase your hp, but it also stands a chance of moving and possibly reducing your peak torque somewhat

It was an RX-7...older model...maybe an 89 or so...he did the turbo and all new wires, headers, intake, etc...all the normal mods. Then he messed with the timing...and the engine blew up on him...still, 2 years later...were still trying to figure out what caused it.

Any ideas? Were looking for somewhere fresh to start..

that is what could of blown the motor too much air trying to enter the motor could have ruined it is my guess but i dont know much about rotery though either so umm get back to me umm timing might have not done it was the turbos a higher stage

Is that so? That's news to me...

I wonder why BTC racers blow up their engines all the time...

well, I wonder why my car blew up during an amateur race, when it lacked any sort of turbines...hmmm... i wonder why my race mechanic failed to tell me this... I guess it's got nothing to do with the timing belt snapping the engine bay by a loose rock that got inside when the car slid into a sandtrap...

Hmm, I think my mechanics were wrong, a whole pileload of mags and other people were wrong...

Oh, you should know, since you've got a Rex engine in your cutlass, probably powered by rocket fuel, right?

Oh do teach me wise young, never raced one...

If you wanna gain some Quick HP / Torque / 1/4 Times.... Replace your Pulleys with new Performace ones, Take out the A/C, K&N Cold Air, Exhaust....

but what about new plugs and wires
That is another was to get Good Milage More Spark = More Combustion. Get 10mm Wires if you can and get Performance Spark Plugs and Look at a MSD ingition system for you Vehical, like Distributor Car and rotor for example.
