How would these setups differ?

How would these two setups differ sound/performance wise? Not sure if this is relevant, but the sub I'm referring to is a Boston Acoustic 8.5 Pro.

1. A single 8" sub powered with 600w.

2. A pair of 8" subs receiving 300w each.

Would both sound the same? Would the single 8" w/ 600w produce the lower frequencies slightly better?

Lastly, is 600w a little crazy for an 8" sub, even though it is rated at 50-750w rms. Would 300w be plenty?

300w or 600w would be fine since its in RMS range. The pair would be slightly louder due to more cone area. Im not sure on the frequency question though.

Alright, cool, just what I wanted to know. Now I just have to decide, 600w or 300w //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Seems like a big difference in power, but I'm thinking the JBL 300 will be a little easier for my car to handle in addition to the P80.4 I have.

Hmm, you had to do that didn't you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif It is already very tempting. Well, I have a couple weeks to decide, but would most alternators be able to handle the P80.4 and 600.1 ok?

It's a '97. I found some information on the electrical system, it says:

Battery: 12 volt, 60 amp/hour

Alternator: 1680 watt, 120 amp.
