How well would a sundown sa 12 sound on an alpine MRP-M500?

It will be underpowering the sub, so it won't be loud. You'll be pushing that amp, so be careful not to clip it and ruin your sub/amp. If you can, upgrade your amp. I don't know what the quality of your 4 gauge wire is, but I ran 1800 off of 4 gauge (OFC) for a long time and it was fine. If you just have some cca, I'd say about a thousand is the highest I would run. As far as your alternator... I don't know how small it is, but stock alts can run more than you'd think

I've got an obsidian 12v3 (similar to the sa)on the mrv-m500 giving it about 550 watts. It isn't going to be as loud as it should/could be but it works. Definitely use a ported enclosure for the most efficiency and depending on what type of music you listen to, set your gain with a -3 dB tone. I personally listen to decaf or metal so I know the loudest my music gets is about -5db .

That's CCA (Copper Clad Aluminum). I wouldn't go too much over a thousand with that unless you did two runs of wire.
