my brain tells me that if I can wire my sub to 8 ohms it might last a bit longer than if I wire it to 2 ohms and then wall socketed it..

right ?

I got a pos merlin 12" sub with double stack magnents and 2.3" voice coil - dual 4

and am going to video it of course - but want it to last a fiew seconds on wall power if possible for the lulz.

wire at 8 ohms or 2 ohms ? - free air on in a box ?

shure if you by saying that : mean cut an extension cord in half and strip away the wires a bit to plug in to the subs terminals to give it 120v@60hz when plugged in to the wall socket in my garage.

Free air, 8 ohms, and be sure to keep it away from anything that can catch on fire. I have had a few go a blaze while playing with the wall sockets.

When is that last time you tried this? When I fry subs like this I don't do it because I want to watch a sub flex in a box. I do it to watch the **** thing blow up...fully.
