Well, thats basically it. What does tuning a box consist off? I plan on building a box for a 12w6 or w7 which is most likely gona be ported.

Tuning an enclosure is basically matching the cross-sectional area and length of a port to the volume of the enclosure to get it to resonate at the correct frequency for the sub installed in the enclosure. The basic physics behind the design is that the sound coming out of the port is delayed so that it perfectly reinforces the direct sound from the sub at the resonance frequency. The reinforcment is less that perfect as you move away from the resonant freq. The inertia of the air moving in and out of the port also serves to control the motion of the sub at resonance and above. You can find the tuning equations in the tutorial section of the JL Audio website as well as many other places on the web.

so is there an application that i can find online which I can design a box by telling it the specs of the sub, the tuning freq, and the shape of the box? I tried using winisd pro and I wasnt sure what the graph it drew really ment.

I would not make it harder than you have to, if you can find an application then go ahead. Usually it is a safe bet to tune between 27-34 hz and build the box on the mid to large size of what the manuf. recommends. Overall size and shape will depend on your vehicle, square or rectagular are the easiest. Play around with the 12volt.com calculators and you will be fine.

human hearing is from 20hz to 20khz

frequency is cyles per second which is how many times the cone moves in and out in one second
