just wondered if there was any way to tell if its a flatwind coil. i did some searching but couldnt find anything
Huh lol?^ ur so wrong Jake, gzzzzz.correct answer, flat wound has round wire and round wire coil has flat wire...
he was being sarcastic lol......flat wound has flat (square) wire and round wire coil...has....round wire..lolHuh lol?
I honestly wasn't going the route of semantics, I just thought some would be interested. Morel has always used hexagonal wire for their coils. For this topic though, I think it's a given that the shape will be rectangular, and that the flatwound or edgewound descriptor is indicating the orientation of the wire to the former. With edgewound coils the wire is usually a single layer with the small edge to the former, wound like a Slinky, and with flatwound you will have multiple layers with the wider part of the wire to the former. I realize you already know this, this is just for the others who don't.You can easilly get into semantics.. I generally refer to a flat wind coil as using ribbon wire, and an edge wound coil as using square wire...
However, the RF site above shows a 'flatwind coil' as using square wire.. and some manufactures will refer to a ribbon wire coil as being edge wound... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif
