Running XP, even in safe mode it wont let you run system restore.

Between Norton 2010 and ThreatFire, pretty much anything is stopped in it's tracks. I also use Malwarebytes from time to time and Search&Destroy with TeaTimer.

Good stuff. Sucks that the site didn't catch the malicious advertising.

Then teatimer could not have been running. It won't allow unauthorized registry changes. Check to make sure it's functioning properly.

First Spybot is worthless and has been since Malwarebytes Antimalware and Super Anti-Spyware came out.

Secondly system restore is also worthless. The good viruses, malware, rogues, trojans manifest themselves in system restore points. You go back and "restore" your computer to a previous time, the virus is still there and youve just caused yourself a headache.

All you need is an AV such as Avast with webshield, or ESET AV with detection of rogue programs and AV's.

You can also stay away from the worthless Spybot and install Sandboxie and run your browser sandboxed. This prevents anything from getting to the registry or PC. Everything stays right in the sandbox and as soon as you close what ever programs are sandboxed or you manually clean the sandbox all malicious items get wiped away.

You can also install this:

Install Winpatrol free, Lock up the registry and remove it from boot. No overhead what so ever and its actually a program worth having.
