How to get your roommate to do dishes?

There are three of us living in a house with no dishwasher. We have set days to do the dishes on, Monday, Wed, and Fri. The roommate who routinely doesn't do dishes on his day is Wednesday. We've asked him many times, and he always says "I will", but never does, then they pile up.

Other than asking him and just letting the dishes pile up until he does them, what's the best way to get him to do dishes on his day?

Take a dirty dish to his room and show him the dish, tell him that it's dirty and that there are 40 more of the same dirty dishes in the sink and ask him to wash them nicely. If he says "I will" and turns around, break the plate over the back of his head and explain to him WHAT AN *** HE IS!

Make a point, give him one more chance and let him know that you're serious. If that doesnt work, then Wednesday(at some pont while he or she is gone from the house/room) drop off every dish in the floor/on the bed

Piss him off and make a point

yea ask again if he doesnt put the dishes in his room...or remove all dishes from the kitchen and dont let him use any until he starts clean.... im sure you can think of somthing to make him get the point

Nice way to piss off your roommate and make living together hell (putting them in his room). Great responses.

Why not just explain that the dishes won't get done until he takes his turn, and they continue to accumulate until he does?

So, if he does his dishes Wed, he's got Wed's dishes. If he waits until Thursday, he'll be doing 2 days' worth, or Friday, then the Friday guy gets a pass and the Wed guy will be doing 3 days' worth.

Or take all the dishes on Wed evening (or Thursday morning) and set them aside, in a bin or trash bag or something, and just let them sit, explain they're waiting for him to wash them.

Worst case, scenario, ask him to move out.

well granted my roomate is my girlfriend and we have a dishwasher but... I told her if she does the laundry, I'll do the dishes.

Make that punk b*tch do the laundry or the dishes and say you'll do the other... Then, tell your other roomate that your one roomate said he'd do the laundry/dishes if you did the other. Bet you'd have both of them doing bullshit housework and you'd get to sit back and laugh!

dont listen to this guy,his girlfriend is really a boyfriend:D

Even I help do this dishes from time to time.

Last time I was asked, I said to hell with that and bought a pack of paper plates and plasticware. Now I only have to wash the dishes used for cooking. While it may be more expensive, I don't like to wash dishes and feel that plastic/paper dishes works. My gf doesn't mind because she doesn't have to wash my dishes. Since she like glass/ceramic plates, she can wash them.

Don't be so nice next time you ask him or leave the dirty dishes on his bed.
ive done this, left nasty food laden dishes, pots and pans on his bed, ruined his comforter, mainly because of the half full cups from the night before

he woke up mad as hell, but never had that problem again
