How to get plexi flush with outside of amp rack?

I'm starting to plan on building a false floor, and want to have plexi in the center facing up with blue neon/led to glow under it.

My question is how to you get the plexi to sit flush with the top of the mdf rack.

You router a lip into the wood for the plexi to sit on?

How do you secure the plexi to the mdf? Clear silicone? or not at all to it's removable?

Thanks all.

Yes, router is the key, cut away the thickness + 1mm (for silicone) into the surrounding board, more if you're wrapping vinyl under it, then silicone in. Leave yourself a good 1/2" of lip to work with.

Looks better if you router the underside of the cover, then the cut isn't visible from the top. You probably figured that out tho. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Good luck.

You can also route out the top side deep enough too, So the Plex is flush with the MDF. Add a small strip of rubber that is sticky on one side to lay the Plex on. When you cover the MDF it will be flush with the glass.

I counter sink #10 screws. You can paint the screws before you put them in to match the MDF covering. This will give you access to the lights and any wiring or Amps. I'll post pictures when mine is done.

Prefering a "machine" look, I like to rout the exact height of the plexi. then Use Small flathead/tapered screws. Drill holes in the plexi Larger than the screw thread to prevent cracking upon assembly. You can use a solder gun or larger drill bit to make small dips for the tapered part of the screw head.

Isn't a router biy made for wood. (I don't own a router) So when you try to use it on the plexi won't it crack it or sling it across the room.

Plexi drill bits? I'm sure they charge extra for them, too. All you need is high speed steel for anything working with plexi. You also need a constant feed and slow speed with a sharp bit to keep from melting it. That goes for drill or router. Carbide router bits won't hurt anything, I just use the same bits I use for wood.
