How to format a computer hard drive?

So i'm giving my old laptop to my little sister, and there has GOT to be an easier way then going in and deleting everything piece by piece.

Is there a way to just format the **** thing? Where it wipes it clean except keeping vista on the computer?

Re-install vista.

you can format it then reinstal vista but you cant format it while keeping vista

I'm pretty sure that laptop has a second partition that has a saved image of windows vista.. just install that.

turn the pc on as soon as u do start hitting the f8 key after the screen goes to loading files hit repair computer then go to dell factory image restore

its newer, my grandpa bought it on black friday two years ago, then gave it to me, i've used it till about a month ago when i got my new macbook, so it's less than 2 years old
