How much RMS over stated is too much?

they just get real shrill... for lack of a better word

but im also running them passive (300 rms thru the crossovers, lol) cause im too broke to afford a processor for a few weeks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
i bet it's actually the mids that are causing the problems. they break up in the higher frequencies, especially at high volume. i am using the RSD tweeters run active with 100 watts per tweeter along with a pair of ID OEM's and it sounds great! the tweets are crossed at 4k/12db.

im using an 8" usher mid... it eats up 150 watts

Mine don't like that kinda power either, I smoked my driver side when it saw about 170, lol. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

slowly turn up the gain and listen to them carefully. people may run them with double over thier rated power with no problem while people may run them 10wrms over and run into problems.

figure it out for yourself.

It's about as silly as your answer was...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
I agree. the sad thing was he wasn't trying to be humorous.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

your speakers will let you know when they are being hurt. I ran a pair of aria sync 8's in custom kicks off 2 old school orion 225hcca's, one bridged to each speaker with no problems. when the waves began to square off, I turned it down!!

I think any quality speaker should be able to handle more than rated power. Some more than others but going from 60 to 75 should be no problem for the speakers at all. Just make sure everything is set correctly and listen for the speaker stressing when overpowering them.

I got a JL 300/4, that is 75 RMS, I would like to match with some JL Speakers, they rate theirs at 60 RMS, But I might go with a few other choices, question is how much RMS can you go over the stated and be fine?
i'm using that exact amp to run my speakers. they are menphis speakers and they are only supposed to handle 50 rms and they've been handling it with no problem. i've even got my gain turned up 3/4 the way.

don't worry about it. give them as much power as you can and listen for signs of stress.
word, though i have rsd's too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
