How much power for a pair of IDQ12

I have run a pair of IDQ10's off a crappy "1000w" Lanzar vibe amp for like 5 years with no problems. I want to upgrade to a pair of 12's for a bit more output, and I'm considering the hifonics XX zeus to push them... I know too much power, if you set your gains right shouldn't be a problem, but I don't really want to waste money. Should I be looking at a smaller amp? bigger subs? It's tough to beat the IDQ for price, considering what you get.

I ran a set of the original idq12's on a zapco studio500 for about 2 years with no problems. I killed one of those same woofers 8years later on 1422watts. they are alot more durable than most would think and sound wonderful too.

Yeah, well I've pounded the crap out of the pair of 10's, that I bought used like 5 years ago, with a crappy amp (which I believe is worse than running them off a good amp), and they still seem just fine. I'm reluctant to even get rid of them, but I'm thinking they've GOT to have sustained some wear for the years, and 12s can be had for $99 each, so wtf not. :p

Plus I'm thinking if I get an amp that will throw down 15-1600wrms, I can run some heavier duty subs later on and still pound the crap out of them without repowering and reinstalling.
