not bad for a single 18 on a single Atomic 5000.1 It makes me wanna recone my z12 to an 18

lol We named it the stealth coil because of the black spun lace. 8 layer flat wound aluminum,stainless steel former,.5in copper tabs that run through the bottom of the coil instead of 2 small vc leads.

Agreed on the armored coils.

alot more companys using the ss former its something tc sounds started yrs ago. the tabs are ok and have used them but never had a prob soldering the alum coil leads...

I think he means that with all the best soft parts, motor, cooling, etc...what is the most power a 3" VC can take before you have to go up to a 4" coil.

I have seen people lose db's switching from a 3" with less power to a 4" with more power.......

This is really a subjective question theres not really a right power range or max power range , there are way too many varibles , to jusy say 2k-3k etc.

I have seen several 3" coiled drivers handle a alot of power for periods of time, including the Atomic APX/APXX, DD Z, IA Warden,etc.

But that doesn't mean I would recommend 5k to them on a daily basis

lot more factors than the coil, but all thing being equal it really depends on the cone size. The larger cone you go, the larger the benefit you get from having a larger coil because of the mass / bl trade off ratio. The other advantage that NO one talks about is the flux path advantage of motors with larger coils. a 4" t-yoke can carry a lot more B than a 3" before saturation. So the 4" motors are going to have a higher ceiling for B than 3" motors. And of course the L is higher too, so you really get a huge jump in BL^2/Re for not a huge jump in moving mass - especially when the cone becomes large and dominates the moving mass -like its said its a ratio.
