How much does it cost to change the WATER PUMP?

well im being quoted 400 and more.

part is just $75 the rest is the labor. The guy said "its like changing the time belt labor will be expensive"

My question is-- have any of u guys done this service recently and how much did it cost you?

Did it myself about 3 days ago on the ol' truck. What are you driving? Honestly...its an hour to two hour job in terms of shop labor costs....2Xavg cost of labor around 60$/hr = 120 labor +75 dollar part comes up to 195. Add tax and all that, of course. How much do you know about motors? A 20dollar Hayes/Chilton manual and a little hard work goes a long way, IF you are comfortable with working on your own vehicle.

yep its under the timing cover i think get a new belt and seals too. It is worthit not to have to go back in again

Well where do u guys take the car for overall check.

for ex: when buying a used car where would u take to check it out for possible imperfections/problems/issues?

When u answer "mechanic" plz be specific if its a USA wide shop. (like firestone)

Ive done FWD before, I dont know about the placement but usually going through the wheel well will help you tons. Never would I EVER pay 400 for a water pump replacement. Get a manual and join an online forum and do it yourself, you only need basic tools.

so i guess it does cost 350-400 and more huh?

its strange i called coupla body shops none of them gave me a quote and told me to bring the car.

And called 3 firestone location and got 3 different quotes. 350, 476 and 580

when u buy a used car where wud U take it? i guess im hopin an asnwer that wud apply to me too.

im sure lots of u know a mechanic that u trust but i mean wud u for example take it to firestone for check up. $21,99?

no i wouldn't. I'd look for a shop that does free inspection
