How much do you tip?

You're an idiot. I average $20 per hour, CASH. I am still in college and work only 20 hours a week but that's all I have to work. That's cool you have an internship but don't act like you are above anything.

I'm not trying to act above, I hardly get paid here for the work I do. I'm just pointing out that I never had that type of job working in a restaurant, therefore my perspective maybe different than someone who has had that job. But don't get me wrong, I've never not tipped or shortchanged, it would be like getting a dented sub through ups.

Last time I tipped was $3.25 or +/-a few cents for a $11 at Uno's this previous Saturday, the reason I hate tipping is I don't know if that is too much too little or what. It just makes it awkward on both ends. I just want to have a meal and go and not feel if the amount was ok or not.
Tipping really isn't that complicated. It's simple math. I've worked in restaurants (and yes it is hard work), so I always tip at least 20%. To calculate 20% quickly in your head, take the bill total and double it. Now just move the decimal point. For example: $20.00 bill x 2=$40.00, now move the decimal over and the tip is $4.00. Very easy, and a respectable tip so you won't have to feel uncomfortable.

Those of you who don't tip: Please never go out to eat ever again. In most states, servers are taxed for the tip, even if you don't leave one (in Michigan they are taxed for a 10% tip regardless). So when you stiff them on the tip, they are actually paying for it. Those of you using the defense that servers aren't forced to work in restaurants; well, you're stupid. You aren't forced to go to a restaurant. If you can't be bothered to tip, go pick up some fast food.

Nope, I have an internship at Regal-Beloit. Maybe that's why I cannot feel what it is like to work at a place like a restaurant. But if they don't like the restaurant job they should go else where, or goto college and get an internship, and not worry about cleaning tables.
Most servers I worked with were in college. When I was in college I had an internship and a restaurant job. When I got home form the internship, I'd change and head out to the restaurant.

Alright man, I'll take that into account, that's a good simple formula I'll try that.

you tip for the experience, if you dont care about that then just go to mcdonalds or stay at home. theres no point in going to a restraunt if you're just going to be a prick or dont understand the concept. if you want to be upset or be an ***.... just stay home, its much cheaper and less of a tax on everyone else. not to mention that server gets paid just enough to cover tax's.
Experience...I guess. I am not rude or anything so I don't see how that's being a prick. I usually get the food to-go, but for the most part, I perfer mcdonalds and the like to most any resturant I have ever been to at any price point.

Some people are willing to pay for service, it's their money, so I don't personally care if someone tips $50 on a $50 bill ... I don't think you should be arguing that people shouldn't leave tips, as it seems like you're doing ...
As for my agenda, the problem I have is that it's become a social obligation and, in some states, a legal obligation to tip your server, which I think is bullshit ...
Not trying to argue with leaving tips. How people choose to allocate capital is their decision. What I am trying to understand is what is the value they are recieving. When I exchange money for a service or good, I think this "Am I achieving a greater value than the money is worth".

I am trying to understand what those who tip are gaining. How is spending their money on a tip advancing them either financially, socially, politically, etc. What do they get in exchange for their money? What is this 'experience'? I am not dumb, it is more of ignorant as I don't understand.

Tipping is an affirmation that I am caucasian.

we bought 100 dollars worth of pizza at a friends house the other night and gave the guy 2 dollars because we are literally one block away fromt he place. he could've walked them over faster then it took for him to start his car wait at the light and then get out and bring it to the door.

at restaurants i always leave large tips unless you really just ****

i once tipped this hot waitress a $20 bill, since she flirted with me pretty much all that night //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.
did you write your number on the bill?
