How much difference? Type R 12" 4 ohm 400W RMS Vs. IDMAX 12" 2ohm 800W RMS

Right now im running a 12" Type R (4ohm) with 400W RMS from my MTX JH1200 (1200W Jackhammer)

I want to upgrade my base with something that pounds but can still deliver great sound quality. I like ID but im wondering if I should spend the extra money to get the sub since I already have more then enough power from the amp.

My box right now is sealed around a cubic foot and custom fit to my car. I am also thinking of porting it by running the port on the outside of the box to create more volume.

I understand the concept of doubling power = +3 Db and porting =+3 Db (aprx) but can anyone explain how big the difference will be??

Right now im running:

H/U: Pioneer DEH6000

Front Speakers: Image Dynamic CXS6 @ 170W RMS

Speaker Amp: Audison SRX4 bridged to 2 channel

Sub: Alpine 12" type R 400W RMS

Amp: MTXJH1200 running on 4ohm 400W RMS

+3db is the ears perception of a noticeable difference. So it will be a noticable difference on top of a noticable difference in theory.

The IDMax should sound better as far as quality.

Are you sold on the IDMax or are you exploring options? With that power (i imagine rms, yes?) Why not run a DC Level 4, or perhaps a Fi Q or BL?

Im still open but I need something with shallow depth (similar to type R around 7.5-8") To fit the box and space needed since its a smaller custom box. Right now its just under a cubic foot and if I do port it I can imagine it being around 2 cubic feet plus theres always the pink stuff //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Im just really impressed with the speakers and want something mostly for SQ but can POUND when I want it to.

Get a BL. I've got my 12" in 1.7^3 off 1200 watts and the mofo pounds... I was quite surprised at the SQ when I turned it down to the point where my mirrors weren't about to fall off

Fi Q, DC Level 3/4, IA Flatlyne, IDMax. I believe you'd be happy with any of these. And...I'll say it; JL W6/W7. Yet your pocket book will get somewhat lighter.

I have a DC Level 4 12 in 1.8 ported @ 32hz. I'm in love with it. Sound smooth and clean, and gets low. Running off of an AQ1200 @ 1 ohm. And is liking it.

The Fi and DC are both slightly under 8" mounting; Can't recall the others but i know it's readily available on their sites.

Haven't heard the Flatlyne yet. However, it has gotten some rave reviews for its quality.

I guess I will be looking for best bang for my buck right now. I havent heard too many good systems so its hard to image how it pounds. How would it compare to say 2 12" Type R's ported??

i have two Type R 12's in a 4.02 ported box.. double baffled etc.. and they get loud im running them with a BXi 1210 but im switching to a Audioque 2200d. But i have never had experience with FI Q, DC Sound Labs.. but i will say i have heard nothing but good reports about FI and DC...
